HPC Hackathon – FAQs

  1. Do I need to pay any money to register for the National HPC Hackathon?
No. You are not required to spend anything to participate in the AWS-Intel National HPC Hackathon.
  2. Do I need to have any specific qualifications to be a participant in the Hackathon?
If you are from a research institute or research organization and have an HPC application/workflow running on-premise, you are welcome to participate in the AWS-Intel National HPC Hackathon, port and optimize your application on AWS.
  3. How do I submit my HPC application/workflow for the Hackathon?
The Idea Phase of the Hackathon will start on Nov 01, 2021. Please submit the details of application/workflow in prescribed format provided on the Hackathon page.
  4. Is it necessary to stay online and be available throughout the Hackathon?
No, you don't have to be logged in or be online the entire time. You can log out and log in whenever you want. But you need to port and optimize the application/workflow on AWS Cloud.
  5. Is there any limitations on the number of libraries that can be used?
There are no limitations/restrictions on the languages, technological stacks, or libraries that can be used. You will be provided HPC clusters with Intel processors.
  6. Do I need to give a demo of the application/workflow that I have ported/optimized?
Yes, at various milestones you are required to demonstrate and explain it to the AWS & Intel HPC expert. E.g., after porting and after each optimization, you need to demonstrate it to the expert.
  7. Is it true that if it's a collaborative submission, all members of the team will have access to work at the same time?
Yes, all team members can connect and work on the HPC cluster at same time.
  8. Who will own the IP (Intellectual Property) rights of the application/workflow after porting and optimizing with Intel on AWS?
IP will be retained by you and your team only. But after completion, we may require you to explain the solution to Intel and AWS teams and help build out a case study if required.
